Twenty minutes outside Matagalpa, Selva Negra is one of Nicaragua’s most famous coffee estates is also a well-known guest lodge. There is a mix of accommodations: 19 bungalows with 1 to 4 bedrooms; 4 Barvarian-style chalets with 3 to 6 bedrooms; modern hotel-style rooms with porches and private bathrooms. Accommodations are not air conditioned, but average temperatures here in the highlands is 65F; Internet is free and meals, served on the restaurant deck overlooking a lake, are a mix of Latin and German cuisine—all prepared with organic produce grown on the estate.
