Honeymoon Escapades

For those beginning a new life together or just looking to spend quality time with someone they love, we have chosen two corners of the country that guarantee romance and tranquility, comfort and adventure.
Settle first into Granada, a gem of a colonial city, a perfectly preserved beauty whose attractions range from romantic restaurants for alfresco and candlelight dining, to horse and carriage sightseeing, to kayaking around Lake Nicaragua. Next head for your place in the Caribbean sun on Little Corn Island, a tropical paradise for those who love to travel far off the beaten path, perhaps for superb scuba diving, eating fresh lobster and private times swinging in a hammock.

A Careli Tours representative will meet you on arrival at Managua International Airport, followed by a 45-minute drive to the lovely colonial town of Granada, sitting on the shores of Lake Nicaragua.  Your host hotel’s greeting includes a cocktail on arrival and your room decorates with tropical flowers and other sweets and treats.

Enjoy a morning at leisure, over a tasty breakfast “Nica” or international style, exploring the hotel’s 5 different patios, taking a swim or a town jog, relaxing.  Around 2 p.m., meet your local Granada guide expert in the lobby; he or she has ready just outside the hotel a decorated horse and carriage, your personal vehicle for an escorted tour along the town’s cobbled streets, around the central plaza, past colonial mansions, historic churches and colorful cafes.  You will certainly want to stop at the beautiful La Merced church and the superb Convento San Francisco, part of which is now a museum exhibiting mysterious stone art carved by pre-Columbian people and an impressive collection of ancient sculptures, once objects of religious worship.  Finish your day with a ride in a traditional craft through an archipelago of Isletas, tiny islands that are rich in birdlife.  With Mombacho Volcano as a backdrop, the sunsets here are breathtaking.

This morning, your guide and drive will meet you in the hotel lobby for a full morning excursion with lunch at Masaya.  We will first head into Nicaragua’s first national park, Masaya Volcano National Park, stopping first at the environmental interpretation cent, a museum explaining the geology of the volcanic area, as well as it’s flora and fauna. Then we proceed to the summit of the volcano to follow the paths around its cone  and peer into its Santiago crater, active since 1946.  Just 15 minutes away is the famous Masaya Arts and Crafts market, a huge outdoor emporium showcasing the finest crafts in the country: painting and ceramics to hammocks, wood and leather work.

Early in the morning, you will transfer from Granada to the International Airport, where our representative will be checking you in for your flight to the Corn Islands.  You’ll have to travel light, with one suitcase only, so any extra luggage we will store for you and deliver to your hotel on your return to Managua.

First you take a scenic, 90-minute flight to Big Corn Island, where you’ll be met at the little local airport by your Eco-lodge hosts, who will transfer you to the pier and a 19-mile yacht ride to Little Corn Island, a remote and tropical paradise off the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua.  You are headed for a Robinson Crusoe-like honeymoon escape on a very small island (no cars here) noted for its gorgeous white sand beaches, coconut and mango tree groves and lush rainforest; your sybaritic lodging is the Yemaya Island Hideaway & Spa, a barefoot beachfront property sitting right beside blue Caribbean waters.  Yemaya, by the way, is the name of the African Goddess of the Sea.  Find homemade chocolates and a chilled bottle of champagne in your room on arrival

Check into your eco-chic cabana, and find homemade chocolates, a bouquet of flowers, and a chilled bottle of champagne. Unpack and prepare to enjoy paradise, as well as an hour-long Couples Massage in the Alianta Spa or in your room.

Day 5: LITTLE CORN ISLAND---amazing reefs

Decked out with snorkels and fins, today you head out to the reef for a couple of hours of sub-marine heaven, whose cornucopia of marine life is supported by a spectacular coral reef: float above mounds of purple and red coral, in the company of red and yellow snapper, blue angel fish, damselfish, multi-colored parrot fish, as well as spotted eagle rays and docile nurse sharks.

Note that during your stay here, you will find morning and evening yoga classes, paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling right off the hotel beach, sailing—with crew or not, languid hours of beach combing, as well as walks into town to climb the lighthouse stairs for the best island view point or for a mojito or two during happy hour at local cafes.

Day 6: LITTLE CORN ISLAND --- a Blue Lagoon experience

Today sail off on a private boat trip to a secluded beach where the two of you will be alone for a couple of hours, marooned by the sea with only a picnic hamper and bottle of wine

Day 7: LITTLE CORN ISLAND --- it’s all about chocolate

Be prepared to learn how local organic raw cacao beans can be magically turned into delicious bonbons or truffles. The one-hour class is held at the time best for you.  Of course all chocolates that you manage to make are yours for the tasting.

Dress as you please for a farewell moonlight, three-course dinner served with a bottle of wine on the beach—weather permitting,

Day 8: MANAGUA---back to the mainland

A curtain of loving memories comes down as you say goodbye to Little Corn.  The lodge staff provides the private boat transfer to Big Corn Island, with check-in time at least 90 minutes before flight departure to Managua.  The Careli Tours team will be at the airport to take you  to a charming boutique hotel for your last night in Nicaragua.

Following breakfast at the hotel, depart by private car for the 30-minute  drive to the International Airport.
