Day 1: Managua to Nekupe Resort

On arrival at Managua International Airport, your Careli Tours representative will meet you and by private car accompany you and your luggage during a scenic 2-hour drive to Nekupe Sporting Resort and Retreat: Nicaragua’s first and most luxurious countryside getaway, sited on a 1,300-acre nature reserve.

2

Day 2: Nekupe Resort – At Leisure

At Nekube, making the most of “at leisure:” think great outdoors, from playing tennis and exploring the reserve on foot or via ATV, to going birdwatching or retreating to our isolated shooting range; consider a learning experience, from a rope class to a private cooking lesson to rum tastings; cater to wellness in our daily yoga classes, in our grand pool with views, or whatever soothes the body and soul in our simply superb Spa.

Day 3: Nekupe Resort – Explore Nicaragua: Masaya Volcano, Granada, Lake Nicaragua

After breakfast and accompanied by a private guide and drive, head out for nearby Masaya Volcano, established in 1979 as the first national park the country. Your local guide will introduce you to the wonders of the Masaya Volcano, following the trails around the Santiago crater—active since 1946 and indeed you will look into the crater itself.  Next stop is Granada for a walking tour of this picturesque historic city, a mosaic of colonial churches and Spanish-style homes that come in a rainbow of colors and enjoy tiled roofs and beautiful indoor patios. Taking lunch in a colonial house, you’ll find on the menu a delicious array of Nicaraguan traditional foods, and you’ll have time to savor Granada on your own. Relax mid-afternoon on Lake Nicaragua during a slow boat ride among the myriads of islands and islets, now treasured by birdwatchers. The scenery and wildlife varies, but the horizon always dominated by dramatic Mombacho Volcano. Return to Nekupe Resort towards sunset.

Day 4: Nekupe to Mukul Resort, Golf & Spa

Morning at leisure at Nekupe. After lunch, transfer by private car with driver and guide, for a delightful, three-hour transfer to your next stay along the Emerald Coast of Pacific Ocean.  We take our time to enjoy different and new perspectives of the lovely landscapes of Nicaragua, stopping to dip in and out of local life and happenings in towns and villages along the way: for scenic overviews, flower markets, for a country church visit, for ceramics shopping in an artisan’s atelier, for roadside stops for coffee or ice cream, for whatever may be specially colorfully authentically “Nica.”

We arrive Mukul Resort at around 4:30 p.m. (16:30) for check-in and settle into either a suite or villa, each and all with ocean view and private pool

Day 5: Mukul Resort – At Leisure

Perhaps today -or tomorrow- is the day to play an 18-hole-round of golf on the lush course designed by David McLay Kidd or indulge yourself at over-the-top-sensational Spa, actually 6 different spas—each a different themed world— at one flowering-hilltop location. Reserve ahead for your personal spa offering you and only you private treatments and relaxation in a private garden with its monsoon shower.

Of course anytime’s a good time to start to take in Mukul by, in and around the waters of the Pacific Ocean.  Stretch out on the private Manzanillo Beach; set off on a quick journey to Ancana Island for snorkeling and scuba diving; take a picnic to another of Mukul’s stretches of white sand, Tamarindo Beach, whose white sands are backed by hallmark cliffs; dive right into ocean action with surfboards, paddleboards, snorkel gear and kayaks at the Watersports Casita.

Day 6: Mukul Resort – Explore Nicaragua: Helicopter to Ometepe Island

Today see Nicaragua from a Birdseye viewpoint, boarding a helicopter at the Mukul’ landing strip, and enjoying amazing vistas when flying over valleys and forests to Lake Nicaragua, circling the twin peaks and craters of the iconic Maderas and Concepion Volcanoes of Ometepe Island —a designated UNESCO biosphere.   We land on the island and climb into our private 4 x 4 vehicle transport to the slopes of Maderas Volcano. Yes, this part of the day is pure adventure: a four-hour hike up the green slopes of Maderas Volcano to its crater lake. We hike through the cloud forested terrain, in the company of resident birds and butterflies, as well as your local guide. We’ll lunch along the way, before heading down to the helicopter waiting to ferry us from Lake Nicaragua to the Pacific Ocean.

Day 7: Mukul Resort – At Leisure

And this may be your day to discover nature on a grand scale in and around Mukul. Join the resort’s Aventura Rangers and get acquainted with the resort’s Turtle Watch program that preserves the native endangered Olive Ridley turtles.  Or hike or ride a bike—on your own or in the company of a naturalist guide— through 8 miles of nature trails, meeting along the way monkeys, sloths, iguanas and dozens of tropical birds.

  • Breakfast included
  • Overnight at Mukul Resort

Day 8: Mukul Resort – At Leisure

During your time here, did you get a chance Mukul Resort – At Leisure to launch into water activities such as whale-watching, fishing and underwater photography?  Everyone’s talking about their visit to the neighboring community of Gigagante, whose many local beachside restaurants and small businesses benefit from funding support from the Pellas family, owners of Mukul.  Plan ahead with a guide for a visit to a community farm that grows vegetables for the resort and welcomes guests to a typical Nica breakfast.

Perhaps you were saving that Spa-time to be the icing on the cake of a delicious vacation. And the time to savor great memories comes as the sun sets brilliantly over the Pacific, during cocktail hour before a grand finale dinner.
