Set in a primary location, just a stone’s throw from the main square and Cathedral, El Convento occupies the reconstructed premises of the handsome San Francisco Convent, founded in 1639; landscaped gardens lie within the confines of the large courtyard that was once the convent’s cloister. With today’s interiors mixing a carefully chosen collection of antiques with more modern furnishings and works of art, the former convent still retains a sense of the city’s colonial past.
